Reserve-Polizeibataillon 133 - Mot. (1.Komp)

This is a photograph album of a man who began his Ordnungspolizei service in the Gendarmerie (Regensburg), working in isolated Customs & Police border controls (Zollgrenze & Polizeigrenze). Locations include Regensburg Cathedral as well as pictures on border & customs patrol and the small Gendarmerie station/house. This man is soon assigned to Reserve-polizeibataillon 133 (mot.), 1.kp. Res.Pol.Btl. 133 was formed in Nürnberg in autumn 1939. In late 1941 Res.Pol.Btl. 133 was moved from Germany to the Western Ukraine, bordering eastern Poland (located at Delatyn, Kolomea/Kołomyja, Stanislavov & Lviv /Lwów/Lemberg). Res.Pol.Btl. 133 was also located at Drohobycz at which the 1.KP was directly involved in mass executions. It was also involved in the depopulation of the Zamosc area and deportations to Belzec concentration camp. In July 1942 Res.Pol.Btl. 133 became II./ Polizei Regiment 24. Notable photographs include the men pictured beside a Zamosc & Belzec roadsign (possibly taken at Lubycza Królewska), another notable photograph is taken of Res.Pol.Btl. 133 men at the Drohobycz Town Hall which then served as an Ordnungspolizei facility. Pages 31-36 of Christopher Brownings ‘Ordinary Men’ reproduce a document by a captain Westermann of Res.Pol.Btl. 133.
